Pixel-Over Tutorial by xXSapphireGaleXx Pixel-Over Tutorial by xXSapphireGaleXx
Check out my gallery for more spriting tutorials!

Read these tutorials for different ways to get rid of the stuff inside the outlines (thanks to =hollinesskiss for showing them to me): [link] [link]

Comments are welcomed. Tell me if you want to see another tutorial, and over what. Also tell me if I should go update my other tutorials to match this format :L

btw, I know Sinadargon's one claw looks odd. Even when I drew it I had a hard time getting it in the right pose :c

----------

Trying a different tutorial style. Meh... At least it's shorter than my other ones >.>

If you need help with shading/outline/etc, check out my [link] (Spriting Fakemon Tutorial) otherwise I assume you know how to do it... *LAZY TO THE EXTREME*

Personally, I love doing pixel-overs as much as I love to do revamps... and revamps are at the top of the list of my favorite things to sprite. Mainly because it takes the frustration out of spriting a difficult pose for me.

I need to go study for my Spanish test now I did good on my Spanish test, since I studied with a friend an hour before it XD

I know I'm not the creator of this deviation, but may I offer my opinion?
It makes the whole process much easier, as a larger image is harder to pixel. You can pixel over a large image, but it will require much more time.
I hope this was helpful~

I liked this tutorial, but it is hard to pixel-over to me because I only have paint (a old version) and microsoft office picture manager, so I'm not succeeding in doing my 4 fakemons and my friend never let's me borrow her pothoshop CD so... IT's SO HARD T.T

You can download GIMP for free off of their site. Should be, probobly, one of the first sites to show up when you search for GIMP download, or so.

:) A lot of digital art programs can be found for free by the way. Also, if you do try GIMP, look for a pixeling tutorial for GIMP.

Also, your pixel-overs look great!

Are there layers in photoshop? (lolz) if so, you can just make a new layer over the sketch, and delete the sketch layer (if you can) to finish the sprite in a shorter amount of time.

OH MY GOODNESS ;-; your sprites look soo good and official. It's gotta be so hard getting all the detail when you're outlining it so small

I do have a tip though - there's an easier way to get rid of everything but the lines! (I used to do it your way, so i feel your pain) I'm really bad at explaining, but these should help you a ton x_X

Hahaha, thanks~ And sometimes it is hard, but I take it at one part at a time, so it isn't as hard as you'd think ;D

Yeah, I usually up the contrast all the way in GIMP to get rid of the stuff inside the lines, but since I wanted to show a method where only people who have access to MS Paint can do, I did the method in the tutorial... even though it takes forever to do XD I'm adding those links you have thar to the AC's so people can see those methods you're talking about ^^

yeah XD doing it with just MSPaint is a biatch. I used to do that with things a lot bigger than the size of this sprite and it'd take houuuuurs. ugh, my poor wrist.
That's good though >_> As long as you know there's another way. ;_; spare the hand-pain!

Great tutorial. But I think that making pixel overs is really a skill, some people can do it, some can't. Whatever it is, you still feel great once you've finished one.

awesome tutorial, really helpful :D

i know an easier way of getting rid of the extra pixels from the paper (i dont know if you already know it)
i start out lessening the contrast of the sketch, then trace it on MSpaint using black.
then invert colors, then go to attributes (image>attributes / cntl+E) and change it to black and white option.
then finally invert it back and change attributes to colors. :dummy: this basically removes the pencil sketch/ paper texture

sorry for the wall of text, thought of sharing this o3o

;D

I kinda do something like that in GIMP. I'll go through and do the outline in a non-black/white color in MS Paint, then after I go into GIMP and up the contrast to as high as it will go. Then I go back to MS Paint and just get rid of the few dark pixels that remain, and I'm all ready to go ;D

lol I don't mind, thanks for sharing ^^
